Golden Spice Lentil Delight: A Turmeric-infused Dal Recipe


  • Ingredients:
  • 1 cup yellow lentils (toor dal)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
  • 1 green chili, chopped (adjust according to your spice preference)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
  • Instructions::
  • Rinse the lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  • In a large pot, combine the lentils with water, chopped tomatoes, ginger, garlic, green chili, and turmeric powder. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes or until the lentils are soft and cooked through.
  • In a separate pan, heat oil or ghee over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
  • Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  • Pour the onion mixture into the cooked lentils and stir well. Add salt to taste.
  • Simmer for another 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
